CBS “60 Minutes” did a report on Pelindaba. Pelindaba nuclear plant had a break-in during Nov. 2007. The gunmen who tried to steal bomb-grade uranium from the Pelindaba plant in Pretoria, South Africa, may have had inside help. Anton Gerber, a worker from Pelindaba, described how security took a lengthly 24 minutes to arrive.

Anton Gerber claimed that security should not have taken more than 3 minutes to reach Pelindaba. Anton Gerber tried to hold off the gunmen and he was shot in the chest. The gunmen left him for dead. The group of 4 gunmen inside the plant escaped. There was a second group of gunmen near the Pelindaba’s fence on the night of the attack. Both groups of gunmen escaped.

Rob Adam, an executive from Pelindaba, namely the Nuclear Energy Corporation of South Africa chief executive, spoke to CBS “60 Minutes.” Rob Adam admitted that the staff of Pelindaba did consider the possibility that the attempted break-in was an inside job and Pelindaba has offered a reward for information.

The long story is at CBS Pelindaba.
