Patty Hearst was kidnapped at 19 in 1974 by the Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA). Patricia Campbell Hearst has now married and is known as Patricia Campbell Hearst Shaw.

Patty Hearst became sympathetic towards their cause and joined them. Patty Hearst participated in a bank robbery and was caught.

Hearst was sentenced to prison. Hearst had served about 2 years when her prison sentence was commuted by President Jimmy Carter. Years later, President Bill Clinton granted Patty Hearst a presidential pardon.
