Pamelyn Ferdin: Pamelyn Ferdin activist convicted
By Therese Lisieux on November 7th, 2008Pamelyn Ferdin, an animal rights activist, was convicted of contempt of court. On Thursday, November 6, Pamelyn Ferdin was convicted of violating an injunction against conducting demonstrations near the homes of UCLA researchers.
Pamelyn Ferdin will be sentenced on Nov. 18. Pamelyn Ferdin demonstrated in June 2008, outside the homes of UCLA researchers. Ferdin distributed fliers that listed the animal scientist researchers’ home addresses and telephone numbers. Pamelyn Ferdin, 49, of Agoura Hills, said she will appeal her conviction. Ferdin denied that her name was in the injunction and said she had the right to hand out the fliers.
The UCLA said that animals used in its research are humanely treated and their use is crucial to finding cures for diseases. The UCLA objects to illegal tactics used by anti-animal research extremists.
