Michael Luther Schumacher, 34, and Kelly Layne Lau, 30, of Tracy, Calif., were arrested and charged. Schumacher and Lau were detained on suspicion of kidnapping, torture, false imprisonment and child abuse. The bail was set at $1.1 million each.

Edwin Thomas was knifed at a bus stop on Malcolm X Boulevard at Gates Avenue in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section. Thomas was attacked after 12:30 pm. Thomas’ assailant was a tall, thin, black man, who looked about 35. This attacker wore blue jeans and a hooded black sweatshirt.
A couple in Tracy, north California, was arrested on Mon., Dec. 1. A boy, 16, has accused them of causing his condition. The teen was described as being housed by the couple and held a captive since he escaped from a foster home in Sacremento and fell into their clutches. The boy said he was held captive for 1 year.
