Nkem Chukwu and Iyke Louis Udobi are the mother and father of United States’ first live octuplets. The Udobi octuplets were born in Dec 1998. The Udobi babies were born in Houston. The weights at birth ranged from 11 ounces to 1 pound, 11 ounces.

The smallest baby died of hear and lung failure 1 week after being born. The other 7 babies of the original octuplet survived and are now 10 years old. Ebuka Udobi, Gorom Udobi, Chidi Udobi, Chima Udobi and Echerem Udobi are sisters while Ikem Udobi and Jioke Udobi are brothers. The Udobi children celebrated their 10 year old birthdays in Dec 2008.

Nkem Chukwu and Iyke Louis Udobi said they were grateful their 7 children survived. Nkem Chukwu expressed her happiness to know that another mother,at Kaiser Permanente Bellflower Medical Center, has delivered octuplets.
