Nicole Yelena Pitonyak, 17, of Barndywine, Charles County, died in a car accident. Nicole Pitonyak died on Sunday, Nov. 9, at about 3:18 pm. Nicole Pitonyak was driving and she had a passenger, aged 16. Her friend was flown by air to Prince George’s County Shock Trauma. Her condition is serious.

Nicole Pitonyak lost control of her car and drove into the center median where she hit a tree. An eye witness said Pitonyak’s Ford Focus may have been racing with another vehicle at high speed before the crash. Police have investigated and said there was no evidence of “drag racing.” Police believed speed may have caused the accident.

St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating. Witnesses are requested to contact Deputy First Class Timothy Reese St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office at 301-475-4200, extension 9115.
