Nathaniel Brandon had a complex personal life. Nathaniel Brandon was a former friend of Ayn Rand. Brandon is a psychotherapist and writer. Brandon was 19 when he and Rand started a professional relationship in 1950. That slowly became a personal relationship. Brandon and Rand were married to their respective spouses when they had an affair.

Nathaniel Brandon’s spouse was Barbara Brandon at that time and she wrote her book years later to talk about her former husband’s affair with Ayn Rand. Brandon later divorced Barbara and married Patrecia Scott.

Brandon hid his relationship with Patrecia Scott from Ayn Rand and she never forgave him for that. That began the rift with Ayn Rand and she broke off relations with him.

That marriage didn’t last. After his divorce, Brandon married his third wife, Devers Israel. After some time, Brandon divorced Israel and married his fourth wife, Leigh Horton.
