Nathaniel Anthony Ayers, born on Jan 22, 1951, is now 58 years old. Ayers was a talented musician. Ayers played the double bass in middle school. Ayers went to study in the Juilliard School, NY.

Unfortunately, Ayers had a mental breakdown. Ayers was warded in a mental hospital. He lived with his mother after his discharge from hospital. After she died, Ayers went to L.A. in his belief that his father lived there. Ayers became homeless and lived on the streets of L.A. He played broken instruments for donations.

LA Times writer, Steve Lopez, met Ayers. Lopez developed a long friendship with Ayers. Lopez wrote “The Soloist: A Lost Dream, An Unlikely Friendship, And The Redemptive Power of Music”. This book became a film titled with the same name.

“The Soloist: A Lost Dream, An Unlikely Friendship, And The Redemptive Power of Music” opens April 24, 2009. The movie starred Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr.
