Updated May 22 2009 – Natalie Cole had kidney disease and was getting dialysis treatment while traveling on her singing tours. Natalie then learned her sister, Carol “Cookie” Cole, had lung cancer.

Natalie Cole had hepatitis C from a past drug addiction that damaged her kidneys. Natalie was with Cookie when her doctors informed her that a kidney donor was available. Natalie made the heart rending decision to leave Cookie’s bedside to have her kidney transplant. During Natalie’s surgery, Cookie passed away.

Carol Cole was healthy for 30 years until she went to the doctor a week ago. The doctor informed Carol he found a cancerous spot in her lungs. Cookie Cole refused to follow her doctor’s advice to start chemotherapy treatment right away. Timolin Cole, the younger sister of the Cole girls, said her family was devastated.

Carol Cole, rest in peace.

Natalie Cole: Natalie Cole released from hospital

Natalie Cole has checked out of hospital. Cole was hospitalized on Sept. 12. Natalie had received kidney dialysis. This was unrelated to her hepatitis C disease.

Cole had been busy promoting her album, “Still Unforgettable”, when se was taken ill. Cole’s publicist, Maureen O’Connor, said her medicine and busy schedule were responsible for Cole’s illness. Natalie Cole has canceled her singing slots for Oct.
