Nadya Vessey, of Auckland, New Zealand, was turned into a mermaid by a team of special effects artists. Vessey wrote to Weta Workshop in Wellington, New Zealand, to ask them to make a customized tail for her.

Vessey’s mermaid tail has an attached fitted swim suit, and is printed with hand painted mermaid scales. This mermaid tail is a prosthetic. Vessey said she had to learn to be comfortable with her prosthetic.

Vessey had a medical problem which caused her doctors to advise amputation of her legs when she was a young child. Nadya Vessey said it had always been a dream to become a mermaid. Now, thanks to the Weta Workshop team, Vessey has become a mermaid.
