Moshe Katsav: Ex President of Israel Katsav charged with rape
By Therese Lisieux on March 9th, 2009Moshe Katsav, a former President of Israel, will be charged for rape. Katsav wants to have a trial to clear his name.
Katsav rejected a plea deal that required him to admit to lesser charges. The prosecutor had suggested lesser charges of sexual misconduct. That might avoid up to 20 years in jail.
Katsav resigned from his post as President after 4 former female staff accused him of various offences like rape, sexual assault and sexual harassment. Katsav quit his office 2 weeks before his 7 year term of Presidency expired.
Katsav had proclaimed his innocence. Moshe Katsav said he was a victim of a political witch hunt to oust him. Katsav’s successor was Shimon Peres, an elder statesman and Nobel Peace laureate.
