Moshe Holtzberg: Holtzberg joins older brother with Tay-Sachs in Israel
By Therese Lisieux on December 1st, 2008Moshe Holtzberg, the orphan 2 year old son of Rabbi Gavriel Noach Holtzberg, 29, and mother, Rivka Holtzberg, 28, has been brought to Israel. Moshe Holtzberg’s nanny, Sandra Samuel, has accompanied him. Yehudit and Shimon Rosenberg, the parents of Rivka Holtzberg, have accompanied Mosche to Israel.
Sandra Samuel was present in Nariman House, the headquarters of the Orthodox Chabad Lubavitch movement in Mumbai. Samuel hid in a laundry room when the terrorists burst into Chabad House in Mumbai. Samuel heard Rivka Holtzberg scream her name for help. When it was quiet, Samuel went to look for the Holtzbergs and saw Mosche Holtzberg by the side of his dead parents. Sandra Samuel carried Moshe and ran out of the building.
Moshe Holtzberg will join his older brother in Israel. The elder Holtzberg son has Tay-Sachs, a genetic disorder that causes harmful amounts of a fatty acid derivative, ganglioside, to accumulate in the brain’s nerve cells. Tay-Sachs is a deadly disease. Moshe Holtzberg’s older brother is a permanent patient in a hospital in Israel. More information on Tay-Sachs can be found at the link.
