Kristen Dalton did North Carolina proud by bringing home the crown. North Carolina has beat 50 other States to win the prestigious crown.

Dalton is a senior student in East Carolina University. Dalton’s hometown is in Wilmington, NC. Dalton beat first runner-up Miss California USA Carrie Prejean, of San Diego, and second runner-up Miss Arizona USA Alicia-Monique Blanco, of Phoenix.

Dalton comes from a family of Miss North Carolina beauty queens. Dalton’s mother was Miss North Carolina USA 1982 and her sister was Miss North Carolina Teen USA 2008.

Miss USA 2009 beauty pageant took place on April 19, 2009, 7 pm ET. Miss USA 2009 contestants came from 50 states and D.C. Miss USA 2009 was held at the ritzy Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Miss USA had two co-hosts. The veteran was Billy Bush, the resident reporter of Access Hollywood. The other co-host was Nadine Velazquez, an actress of the fame “My Name Is Earl”. Billy Bush had hosting duties for Miss USA and Miss Universe in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

Following tradition, the previous year’s Miss USA, Crystle Stewart, will pass on the crown to the new winner of Miss USA 2009. This winner will proceed to compete in the Miss Universe 2009 later during the years.

Miss USA contestants do not need to be tested on their talents. This is the main difference between it and the Miss America beauty pageant. Miss USA and Miss Universe are organized by the same body, Miss Universe Organization. Donald Trump and NBC Universal make up this body.

The panel of judges for Miss USA 2009 include Robert Earl, Shandi Finnessey, Willie Geist, Brian Graden, Shelley Hennig, Perez Hilton, Alicia Jacobs, Claudia Jordan, John Miller, Kelly Monaco, Kenan Thompson and Eric Trump.
