Migrant Mother photo: Katherine McIntosh’s Migrant Mother video

Katherine McIntosh was 4 years old when the photo of her mother, a migrant mother, was taken. The migrant mother suffered during the Great Depression. In the photo of the migrant mother, Katherine McIntosh is the girl on the mother’s left side. The “Migrant Mother” picture was snapped around Feb. – March 1936. The camerawoman was Dorothea Lange of Florence Owens Thompson, who was 32 when she took that photo.

Katherine McIntosh recounted that Dorothea Lange asked her mother for permission to take her photo. The picture was published in the newspapers and highlighted the plight of the migrant mothers allm over USA.

The entire family was inspired to work hard and appreciate the fruits of their labor.

The woman known as the Migrant Mother died in 1983, at age 80. The Migrant Mother photo was featured in a local USA 32 cent stamp.
