Hysear Randell is on trial for is on trial for theft, forgery, computer crime and racketeering.

Michelle Cawthra, a former Colorado Department of Revenue supervisor, admitted stealing $11 million in unclaimed tax refunds from Colorado. Cawthra blamed her love for her boyfriend, Hysear Randell, which she said led her to steal.

Hysear Randell, 42, is married to Trudy Randell. Mrs Randell created accounts that were used in the scheme. Mrs Randell has pleaded guilty to theft and is expecting sentencing.

Randell’s defense said Cawthra lured him with money to encourage him to leave his wife, Trudy Randell. However, Cawthra testified that Randell knew the money came from the Colorado State.

Cawthra has already been convicted and sentenced to 24 years in prison.
