Michael Rodriguez, of “Texas 7″, executed in Texas
By Clarencia Cynrae on August 15th, 2008Michael Rodriguez, one of the “Texas 7” fugitives, was executed on Thursday, August 14, 2008. Michael Rodriguez was a killer who was twice convicted in the courts. Michael Rodriguez said sorry for his crimes and was repentant.
Officer Aubrey Hawkins was murdered on December 24, 2000. Aubrey Hawkins tried to stop the “Texas 7” from robbing a sports store. Aubrey Hawkins was shot fatally by the “Texas 7.” Michael Rodriguez then pulled Hawkins from his patrol car and removed his gun. Hawkins was then run over by his patrol car when one of the “Texas 7” drove over him.
Four “Texas 7” fugitives were caught in Jan in Colorado. Larry Harper, one of the “Texas 7”, committed suicide rather than be caught by the law. The remaining two fugitives surrendered 2 days later.
The remainder of the “Texas 7” are George Rivas, Randy Halprin, Donald Newbury, Joseph Garcia and Patrick Murphy. They are all on death row and awaiting the appeals court. Aubrey Hawkins’ wife, Lori Hawkins, became a widow at the age of 27 in 2000. Lori was married to Aubrey Hawkins for 4 years before he was killed. Lori is now 35 in 2008. Lori Hawkins has since remarried.
Michael Rodriguez was the eighth convicted killer executed in Texas in 2008.Rodriguez was the 4th to be executed in Texas in August 2008.
Michael Rodriguez, 45, told his lawyers to drop the appeals and volunteered to receive the lethal injection. The first conviction of Michael Rodriguez was for the contract to kill his wife, Theresa Rodriguez. Michael Rodriguez was infatuated with a younger woman. He apologized to his sister-in-law for killing Theresa.
