Mellisa Fung, CBC reporter, was taken hostage on Oct. 12. Mellisa Fung, a Canadian, was reporting in a refugee camp in Kabul. Fung, a journalist, was held in captivity for 4 weeks in Afghanistan.

Adam Khan Serat, the spokesman for the provincial governor in Afghanistan’s Wardak province, said Mellisa Fung was freed after tribal elders and provincial council members discussed her release. Adam Khan Serat said no ransom was involved.
