Update May 8 2009 – Robert Schimmel’s estranged wife, Melissa Schimmel, has filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. Melissa Schimmel said she had separated from her husband on the day she was assaulted.

Melissa Schimmel filed her divorce lawsuit and asked for spousal support and sole physical custody of their 2 minor children. Melissa Schimmel has requested for child support.

Robert Schimmel, 59, was arrested for alleged domestic battery. Schimmel, the comedian, was arrested after police found his wife bearing some physical marks. Schimmel has been detained in police custody pending $50,000 bail.

Police responded to a call for assistance at Schimmel’s home in LA. Officers found Mrs Schimmel roughed up and arrested Robert Schimmel.

Robert Schimmel married his first wife Vicki and later divorced her 3 times. Schimmel then married his daughter’s best friend, Melissa. Melissa is half of Schimmel’s age. Melissa and Robert Schimmel have 2 children.

Schimmel had just written his new book called “Cancer on $5 a Day”. Schimmel recorded his experiences fighting non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
