Melanie McGuire was convicted and sentenced for murdering her husband. McGuire allegedly killed her husband William, dismembered his body, and dispersed his parts in 3 suitcases in 2004. McGuire was sentenced in 2007 to life in prison. McGuire was sentenced for first degree murder.

McGuire’s lawyers submitted documents to reopen her trial record to submit new evidence. New Jersey’s Attorney General rejected the application and rejected the request for a hearing before a trial judge.

McGuire’s lawyers claimed the NJ state experts’ testimony on the bullets found in William McGuire’s body was not from Ms McGuire’s gun. The murder weapon was not found. Ms McGuire’s gun was also not found.
