By Therese Lisieux on July 24th, 2009Mauricio Baldivieso, 12, is the youngest professional South American footballer. His father is Julio Cesar Baldivieso. Mauricio played for Aurora, in a first division game in Bolivia. Baldivieso Jr wore the same number that his father wore when he was playing for Bolivia’s national team.
Baldivieso Jr was fouled by his opponent Henry Alaca. Baldivieso played when he was 12 years old and he became 13 on Wednesday, July 22.
Before Mauricio Baldivieso, the youngest professional footballer was Fernando Garcia, of Peru, who played professional football when he was 13 years old in 2001.
