Matthew Hirschfelder, 33, a teacher, was charged with sexual misconduct with a minor in 2006. Hirschfelder was a former choir teacher of Hoquiam High School.

Hirschfelder appealed to have his case dismissed. The appeals court agreed that Washington state law is vague. The law was interpreted to forbid sexual intercourse between school employees and students who are 16 – 17. Hirschfelder was accused of having a sexual relationship with a teen, 18. Hirschfelder resigned from his teaching post in 2007.

Matthew Hirschfelder is married with 4 children.
