Mary Jane Fonder was convicted for the murder of Rhonda Smith. Fonder’s motive was supposedly jealousy. Fonder, of Springfield Township, in Doylestown, was found guilty. Fonder received a life sentence.

Fonder’s taped interview with police was used as evidence. Fonder had told investigators she was jealous of Rhonda Smith for getting more attention from their pastor and congregation. Smith was shot at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Springfield Township, on Jan 23, 2008.

A gun was found abandoned in a lake. It belonged to Fonder and its ballistics matched those of the weapon that killed Smith. Fonder’s car also contained gunshot residue. Mary Jane Fonder has always maintained her innocence.
