By Therese Lisieux on July 16th, 2009

Marshall Thompson, Joe Jackson’s partner in their new record label company, had a convict past. Thompson served 366 days in prison in 2001 for a conviction. Thompson, a retired policeman, was charged with conspiracy to commit extortion after he participated in a scheme to sell police badges to businessmen.

Thompson conspired with active police officers to sell badges for $1000 – 2500 each. Owning a police badge meant the person could carry a concealed weapon, get parking in restricted areas and get discounts for services or goods.

Thompson used to be a band member of Chi-Lites, who produced hits like “Oh Girl” and “Have You seen Her”. The Chi-Lites is a band that was active in the 1970s.
