Updated August 25 – Dr Dan Rogers gave Mark Becker a psychological evaluation and his opinion is that Becker is not fit to stand trial. Becker’s lawyer is the public defender, Susan Flanders. Flanders has filed documents to state that Becker was found incompetent to stand trial.

Becker’s trial is supposed to start September 15 in Butler County.

Ed Thomas, the Aplington-Parkersburg High School football coach in Iowa, was fatally shot. Ed Thomas was shot in the temporary weight lifting room of the school.

Thomas, 58, died in hospital on Wednesday, June 24. Mark Becker, 24, Thomas’ former football player, was arrested in connection to the shooting death of Thomas. Becker was arrested on first degree murder charges and was detained without bail.

Aplington-Parkersburg High School, in Iowa, was damaged by a tornado on May 25, 2008. Ed Thomas was one of the main forces who rebuilt the School’s football team. Not only did Thomas rebuild the school and football team, the Aplington-Parkersburg High School football team entered the Iowa state semi-finals.

Mark Becker was arrested Sunday night, June 21. Becker had smashed the windows, and rammed the garage door of a home. Becker fled and gave the police a high speed chase. For Sunday’s incident, police said Becker was charged with eluding the law, speeding, reckless driving and failure to obey a stop sign.

In 2009, Becker recently pleaded guilty to charges of assault, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal mischief, for an old case. In 2004, Becker pleaded guilty to under-age possession of alcohol. In 2003, Becker received a deferred judgment on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge.

Kampman, Jacksonville’s Brad Meester, Detroit’s Jared DeVries and Denver’s Casey Wiegmann.
