Updated July 5 2009 – Silvio Berlusconi will not be bringing his wife to the G8 summit next week Wednesday, on July 8. Berlusconi has asked Mara Carfagna, a former topless model and present minister, to be his co-host.

Berlusconi allegedly asked Carfagna to look after the partners of the leaders at the G8 summit in L’Aquila. The G8 summit leaders’ spouses are mostly women, with the exception of Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel, whose spouse is Joachim Sauer.

Mara Carfagna is Italy’s Equal Opportunities Minister. Carfagna will be aided by the Education Miniister Maria Stella Gelmini.
