Marcheline Bertrand was Angelina Jolie’s mother. Jolie brought up her mother when she was in London for a press conference on Mon., Nov. 17. Jolie broke down in tears as she recounted memories of her mother Marcheline Bertrand. Ms. Bertrand passed away in Jan., 2007.

Jolie said that despite having a formidable name like Marcheline, her mother was soft and gentle, like a Marshmallow. Jolie said her sibling and herself called Marcheline as Marshmallow as a joke because of her nature. Jolie said her mother Marcheline was the kind of woman she related to. Marcheline Bertrand was soft and gentle but when it came to protecting her kids, she was fierce. Jolie said the movie Changeling was like Marcheline Bertrand, because the motherly character, Christine Collins, in the movie fought hard to know the truth about her kidnapped son.

Marcheline Bertrand died of ovarian cancer at the age of 56 in 2007.
