Mara Escobar, 35, has been charged with assault and battery, assault and battery with a weapon, and rape of a child. Mara Escobar has been accused of ill treating her niece, 16, since the girl was living in her home. Mara Escobar pleaded not guilty. Escobar was detained in jail with a $25,000 bail condition.

Mara Escobar’s niece was beaten with thorn rose stems, beaten with frozen hot dogs, punched, kicked and slammed on the floor. The girl lived in a sparse room with minimum furniture while Mara Escobar’s daughters had TVs, DVD players, toys and video games in their rooms.
