Updated Sep 8 2009 – Karina Smirnoff has confirmed that she has broken off her engagement to Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Previously, signs of their split became imminent when Smirnoff and Chmerkovskiy delayed their wedding.

Chmerkovskiy & Smirnoff had earlier said they were too busy to get married. After working together on another project on stage, the strain was too much and they have decided to call it quits.

Chmerkovskiy & Smirnoff can be seen together in Dancing with the Stars, in the season premiere on Sep 21. Viewers will be expecting to see some tension between the ex couple. Not to worry, Chmerkovskiy & Smirnoff are professionals and they will perform well.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff are engaged. Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff have been dating for less than 6 months and Chmerkovskiy has proposed. Chmerkovskiy,28, of New Jersey, proposed to Smirnoff on New Year’s Eve.

Chmerkovskiy and Smirnoff are now on tour, performing in “Dancing with the Stars” winter tour. DWTS winter tour will end its run in mid-February. The TV show, DWTS starts on March 9, beginning its 8th season.

Chmerkovskiy & Smirnoff have teamed together to dance on DWTS. One of their dances is mentioned in the video below.
