Madison Quartarone: Quartarone world’s youngest brain surgery patient (photos)

Madison Quartarone, of the UK, may be the world’s youngest ever brain tumor surgery patient. Quartarone ‘s head was swollen and she was drowsy. A midwife alerted the doctors. Quartarone was discovered to be born with a large benign brain tumor. Quartarone’s tumor was accumulating fluid.

Quartarone had 7 operations in the first 7 weeks of her new life. Quartarone was 2 weeks old when she had her first brain operation.

Madison Quartarone’s parents are Charlene Smith, 20, and her partner, Nick Quartarone, 25. Madison Quartarone was born on Nov. 1. Doctors did 3 embolisations and other surgeries to block vessels that supply the tumor with blood. Doctors hope that the tumor will shrink.

Madison Quartarone was allowed home for Christmas. Baby Quartarone will return to the hospital for checks and follow-up treatment in 2009.
