In Guatemala, Luis Escobar, 29, overcame a security guard at Guatemala City call center and seized his gun. Luis Escobar was said to be jealous over his former girlfriend, who worked at the call center. Escobar burst into the call center on Monday, Oct. 6.

Luis Escobar took over the call center and 40 hostages. Later, he released 40 hostages but detained his ex girlfriend and her new boyfriend. Luis Escobar released them about 10 minutes later. Escobar then surrendered himself to the police. Escobar did not have specific demands when he detained the hostages but he asked to speak to a pastor. When the pastor was sent in, Escobar broke down and released the hostages.
