Lisa Valentine, 40, has been sentenced to 10 days jail for contempt of court after she refused to remove her headscarf on Dec. 16. Valentine was released in less than 1 day. Consequently, there was a protest in Douglasville, outside Atlanta. Muslim rights activists asked the Department of Justice to investigate this incident.

Lisa Valentine’s case has sparked off a new direction for the city court workers. They will be trained in sensitivity and there will be signs on courtroom dress codes.
