Linda Greenlaw: Linda Greenlaw convicted of illegal fishing
By Clarencia Cynrae on June 4th, 2009Linda Greenlaw was the captain of the Hanna Boden. Greenlaw was in charge of the fishing boat which was the sister ship of the Andrea Gail. The Andrea Gail which sank in a storm in the Atlantic in the 1991 Halloween Nor’easter.
From her sea faring adventures, Linda Greenlaw wrote several books which became bestsellers. They are “The Hungry Ocean” in 1999, “The Lobster Chronicles” in 2002 and “All Fishermen Are Liars” in 2002.
Sebastian Junger wrote “The Perfect Storm” in 1997 to narrate how the Andrea Gail sunk. Greenlaw was featured in the book as someone who tried to warn the Andrea Gail about the coming storm that eventually sunk the boat.
Greenlaw was caught fishing in Canada’s waters in Sep 2008. Greenlaw was convicted and fined $50,000. The catch on her boat will be seized. It has been 8 months and who knows at what condition the catch will be. Linda Greenlaw said the fine was a large amount and what was worst were her two convictions.
