Linda Carty, 50, is a former primary school teacher. Carty was convicted of killing Joana Rodriguez, 25. Carty is a British woman who migrated with her family to Texas when she was about 23 years old. Carty was sentenced to death in 2002. Carty is on death row in Texas. Carty has launched her final appeal against her death sentence.

Carty’s family and supporters claimed she was innocent and her trial was not well presented.

Linda Carty was accused of taking part in an abduction and consequent suffocation of Rodriguez. The prosecution alleged Carty was responsible for the kidnapping of the pregnant Rodriguez and she removed Rodriguez’s baby by cutting through the womb with a pair of scissors. The defense failed to present evidence that Rodriguez’s baby was born days before her kidnapping.
