Leonard Russell: Russell convicted of human trafficking
By Therese Lisieux on December 23rd, 2008Leonard Russell, of Iowa, is the first person to be convicted in Iowa for human trafficking. Leonard Russell was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Mon., Dec. 22. Leonard Russell, 37, was sentenced 10 years on each of 4 more charges. All sentences are to be served concurrently. Russell was fined $5000.
Russell recruited 2 Nebraska teens, 15 and 16, for commercial sexual activity like prostitution and strip club performances. The girls testified against Leonard Russell. Marcia Ryan, 19, a prostitute, also known as Jazzie, was alleged to have helped Russell recruit the girls. Marcia Ryan has been charged with the same counts as Leonard Russell. Ryan’s case is pending.
