Lee Atwater deathbed confession: No Atwater deathbed confession

By Therese Lisieux on November 12th, 2008

Lee Atwater was a white man who worked to integrate the blacks into the white political community. Lee Atwater used many controversies methods and he was a difficult man to understand.

One day, unexpectedly, Lee Atwater fell ill with a brain tumor. Atwater received steroids treatment that swelled his head.He looked awful. Mary Matalin said that Lee Atwater was turned into a boogieman that was frightening. Matalin denied the rumors that Atwater had a deathbed confession. Atwater did not turn towards Christianity and confess his sins.

Atwater did not turn to the bible even at the doorstep of death. Ed Rollins said that the bible in Atwater’s room was unopened and still wrapped in plastic. Rollins was one of the people who thought Lee Atwater did not have a deathbed confession. People saw the signs that Lee Atwater did not have a death bed confession. During his lifetime, he had said that he was proud of who he was. He meant there would be no confession of sins. So I don’t think there ever was a deathbed confession by Lee Atwater.

The movie, “Boogie Man: The Lee Atwater Story” opens on Nov. 11. It stars Tom DeLay, Sam Donaldson, Michael Dukakis, Tucker Eskew, Howard Fineman, Mary Matalin, Terry McAuliffe, Ishmael Reed, Ed Rollins.
