Oprah Winfrey’s website revisits the old story on Whitney Cerak and Laura Van Ryn. Whitney Cerak was thought to have died in a car accident on April 26, 2006. Actually, Cerak was alive. A medical staff had mistakenly put the name label of Laura Van Ryn on Whitney Cerak.

Whitney Cerak suffered head and face injuries and was in a coma for 5 weeks while another family stood vigil by her bedside. The family thought she was Laura Van Ryn. Laura Van Ryn was one of those who perished in the same vehicle accident. Whitney Cerak was the sole survivor.

Carly Cerak, the sister of Whitney Cerak, did not want to see the “body of her sister.” Carly Cerak thought she could not bear to see her beloved sister dead and crushed.
