July 27 2010 – Laura Dekker has been allowed to sail solo around the world. The family court judges ruled the earlier decision to ban her solo sailing attempt as invalid.

July 17 2010 – Babs Mueller, Laura Dekker’s mother, wrote a leter which was published in the local Algemeen Dagblad newspaper. Ms Mueller wrote that she did not wish to oppose her daughter’s desire to sail solo around the world.

Laura Dekker has to appear in court on Tuesday, July 19, to attend a hearing to see what the judge may decide on whether she should remain a ward of the state.

Laura Dekker, 14, wanted to become the youngest sailor to sail solo across the world. Dekker was prevented from accomplishing her dream by her country’s authorities, who were worried about her. Last Friday, Dec 18, Dekker was reported missing from her father’s home in Utrecht, in the Netherlands.

Dekker’s parents are separated. Dekker’s father supported her ambition while her mother refused to allow her to sail solo across the world’s oceans.

Dekker was found alive and well on St Martin.
