Kimberly Anyadike: Anyadike youngest African American female solo pilot
By Therese Lisieux on July 12th, 2009Kimberly Anyadike is the youngest African American female to fly solo across the US. Anyadike, 15, of Los Angeles, flew a single engine Cessna through Texas and Arizona to land at Compton Woodley Airport. Anyadike has become a part of history by becoming the first youngest African American to have completed such a journey.
Anyadike was accompanied by an adult safety pilot, Levi Thornhill, 87. Thornhill had served with the Tuskegee Airmen during World War Two. Along their journey, they met around 50 other Tuskegee Airmen who autographed their plane.
Anyadike learned how to be a pilot from Tomorrow’s Aeronautical Museum. The group gave aviation lessons to economically challenged students and at-risk youth.
