Kerwin Danley: Kerwin Danley’s third hit

By Therese Lisieux on April 22nd, 2009

Kerwin Danley, an umpire, was hit on his head by a flying bat fragment. Danley has been hit at least 3 times on the baseball pitch. On Tuesday, April 21, Blue Jays played Texas Rangers at Toronto. Hank Blalock’s bat broke and a sizeable portion hit Danley’s head. The blow was sufficient to knock Danley to the ground.

Danley was sent off the field on a stretcher and admitted into hospital.

Danley was no stranger to blows on the pitch. On April 26, 2008, Danley was hit by a baseball from Brad Penny of the Dodgers. Danley was hospitalized for observation and released the following day. Danley returned to his umpire duties in June 2008.

One of Danley’s earlier baseball hits was in June 2006. Kerwin Danley was hit by a baseball on his collarbone. The game he umpired was between Chicago Cubs and Houston.
