Kerala nun Sister Alphonsa was made a saint at an important ceremony in Vatican, on Sunday, Oct. 12. Pope Benedict has cleared Sister Alphonsa’s name for canonization on June 1, 2007. This process was first started 55 years ago. Sister Alphonsa was beautified by Pope John Paul II in 1986. Sister Alphonsa was recognized as an extraordinary nun in 1986 in Kottayam. It had been some 40 years since her death.
