Kathryn Whitson & Walter Simpson: Monkey guarding Whitson & Simpson

By Clarencia Cynrae on August 16th, 2009

Kathryn Whitson, 72, and her boyfriend, Walter Simpson, also 72, were discovered dead in their home in College Park, Orlando, Florida. One of their relatives found the couple dead inside their College Park home and informed the police.

Whitson and Simpson kept pets like cats, dogs, birds and 4 exotic monkeys. One of the monkeys was very attached to the couple and was standing guard over their bodies. The monkey refused to let go one of the deceased.

Local officials knew about Whitson and Simpson keeping pets in their home. In 2006, animal control came to remove about 30 felines from their home. The cats and pets were living in soiled conditions. Whitson had the necessary permits to allow her to keep her exotic monkeys. They were in good condition although animal welfare officers noted they showed stress.

Police have cleared the home of all pets and the animals were sent to their appropriate care givers to take temporary custody. Cops are investigating the deaths of Whitson and Simpson. The initial statement said foul play was not suspected.
