Karla Leanne Homolka & Paul Bernardo: Homolka & Bernardo (photo)
By Clarencia Cynrae on September 21st, 2009Karla Leanne Homolka, aka Karla Leanne Teale, was a Canadian former convict. Teale Homolka was tried and convicted for raping and murdering two teens from Ontario, Canada. Homolka was implicated for manslaughter of Leslie Mahaffy and Kristen French. Karla was also tried for raping and killing her sister, Tammy Homolka.
Karla Homolka said she was not an active participant in the crimes.
Karla Homolka struck a bargain with her prosecutor to plead guilty. In return, she would be given a relatively short prison sentence of 12 years. Homolka was arrested, charged and convicted in 1991.
Homolka’s husband, Paul Bernardo, bore the brunt of the murder charges for the deaths of Leslie Mahaffy, Kristen French and Tammy Homolka. Bernardo was arrested in 1993 and convicted in 1995. Canada gave Bernardo the maximum sentence allowed, which was life in prison.
Karla Homolka was convicted and jailed for 12 years from 1993 onwards. Homolka was freed in 2005 and has relocated to Paris or Antilles. Homolka had a new partner and baby by the time she allegedly left Canada in 2007.
Homolka was very lucky to have struck her plea bargain before video tape evidence was found against her. Video recordings showed Homolka participating in the rapes and murders of the young female victims. The public was outraged but a deal was a deal and Homolka was freed in 2005.
