Kara DioGuardi has been invited to join American Idol as the fourth judge. Kara DioGuardi is a Grammy nominated songwriter. Kara DioGuardi will judge along with Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul as the fourth judge.

Kara DioGuardi is expected to use her background knowledge and skills to judge American Idol contestants. Kara DioGuardi will be on season 8 of American Idol, when it premieres on Jan. 2009, on FOX tv.

Simon Cowell said that the team is making American Idol more competitive. They are excited to welcome Kara DioGuardi as the fourth judge. Cowell described Kara DioGuardi as being smart, sassy and one of the most successful songwriters in America. Mike Darnell said that Paula Abdul was the only female judge but now she would have the support of Kara DioGuardi to balance the gender equation from Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell.
