Julie Heggie: Tom Furgeson on Heggie’s missing records
By Therese Lisieux on October 7th, 2008*
Something fishy is up with Julie Heggie. Julie Heggie was required to pass on her coronor’s records to her successor, Tom Furgeson. But Fergeson said he inherited “very, very, very few records” for the 16 years that Julie Heggie was in charge. One autopsy report has been discovered missing and that belonged to Matthew Shepard, a student from University of Wyoming. Matthew died on Oct. 12, 1998.
Julie Heggie laid the blame on the county attorney. Heggie said she gave the reports to the county attorney when she left her post as the County Coronor. This Albany County Attorney, Richard Bohling, refused to confirm if he had any missing autopsy reports. Albany County Commissioner Tim Chesnut said he would talk to Richard Bohling but hinted Julie Heggie might know where the reports are.
