Judge Robert Nalley & Jean Washington: Nalley deflates Washington’s tire

By Clarencia Cynrae on August 12th, 2009

Judge Robert C Nalley is a circuit court judge in Charles County, in Maryland. Nalley admitted to his supervisor, the chief administrative judge for Maryland’s 7th Circuit, Judge William D Missouri, that he deflated the tire of a car parked near the court house.

Nalley said the car had been repeated parked in a restricted zone. Nalley tried to rationalize that deflating a tire was less inconvenient than having the car towed away. Nalley said he left notes to warn the driver of parking in the restricted area.

The car belonged to Jean Washington, a cleaning woman. There was a sign that said parking required a permit for 8am to 6 pm. Washington said she would have taken responsibility had her car been towed or ticketed. Washington said deflating her tire was inconvenient. Washington claimed she did not receive any notice about her parking until the day she found her tire deflated.
