Joseph Dwyer photo, war casualty hero
By Clarencia Cynrae on July 21st, 2008Joseph Dwyer, 26, whose picture became famous when he was snapped in a poignant war picture, has died from a drug overdose on June 28. The photographer, Warren Zinn, wondered if the fame could have been responsible for Joseph Dwyer’s fate.

Joseph Dwyer suffered illusions after he returned home to the US. His war time experiences messed him up. Joseph Dwyer used to sniff Dust-Off, a cleaning chemical, to deal with his traumatic post-war experiences.
Joseph Dwyer was a hero. He took his friend’s place when she was called up for deployment in the Middle East. Dionne Knapp had children and she was prepared to risk her army job to disobey orders because she wanted to be home in the US where her children were.
Dionne Knapp knows that Joseph Dwyer died because of all he did to help her.
