Melissa Batten, 36, was shot and killed by her estranged husband, Joseph Batten, also 36, on Tuesday, July 29, 2008. Melissa Batten had obtained a restraining order (on July 21) against Joseph Batten but he disobeyed it on the day he shot and killed Melissa Batten. Joseph Batten then killed himself with his own gun.

On June 5, Joseph Batten had already confronted his wife, Melissa Batten, at home with his gun. He threatened to kill himself. Melissa Batten then moved out of their marital home.
The fatal shootings occurred on Tue. July 29 as Joseph Batten approached his wife, Melissa Batten at the car park downstairs from her friend’s apartment.
