Jonathan Reed: Reed’s death row conviction reversed (photo)
By Therese Lisieux on January 13th, 2009Jonathan Bruce Reed, a white man on death row for 30 years, has his conviction reversed. An appeals court ruled Reed did not have a good jury because prosecutors excluded blacks in their beliefs that black jurors empathized with defendants.
Reed was convicted and sentenced to death for the death of Wanda Jean Wadle in Dallas. Reed was found guilty of raping and killing Wadle. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has now ordered Reed to be released or retried for the crime.
Jonathan Reed has been on death row since Sept. 1979. Reed is one of the longest waiting prisoners for exection.
