Jon Phillips sentenced for murder of Sarah Berry’s son, Chandler Grafner
By Angie Anthony on August 13th, 2008Jon Phillips was convicted of first degree murder, fatal child abuse and tampering of evidence. Jon Phillips starved Chandler Grafner, age 7, in May 2007. Jon Phillips was sentenced to 48 years in jail time and life imprisonment.
Chandler Grafner had cardiac arrest, starvation and dehydration. Chandler Grafner was 7 years old and weighed just 34 pounds. The body of Chandler Grafner had injuries like bruises and cuts. During his last days, Chandler Grafner was kept in a cupboard where he had to do his toileting there too. It was not a pretty sight when the jurors were shown the air mattress and shelf that were encrusted with the boy’s excretement.
Chandler Grafner’s mother, Sarah Berry, 23, pleaded guilty to second degree murder. Sarah Berry will be sentenced soon. Sarah Berry was Jon Phillips’ ex-girlfriend. She gave Chandler Grafner to Phillips after the court removed her as the custodial parent.

Susan Berry was the stepmom not mom. Your headline reads Jon Phillips sentenced for murder of Susan Berry’s son, Chandler. Poor boy had a hard enough lot in life without being Susan Berry’s son. Susan Berry is more accurately his co murderer.
I find Chandler’s real Dad, Norris, a real jerk for not checking ever on his son and abandoning him to his biological mother, obviously not the best mom on the planet.
Given four parents, you would hope Chandler would have someone…how terribly sad…
