Johnny Truelove is based on Jesse James Hollywood

By Clarencia Cynrae on November 9th, 2008

Jesse James Hollywood was accused of killing Nicholas Markowitz, 15, in 2000. Santa Barbara County Deputy District Attorney, Ron Zonen, used to be the D.A. on the case. Zonen has been allowed back on the case.

Ron Zonen had been removed from the case of Jesse James Hollywood by a California appeals court. Ron Zonen gave material to Nick Cassavetes, the director, who used the material to make a movie called “Alpha Dog.”

Alpha Dog had a character named Johnny Truelove, which was a parody role based on Jesse James Hollywood.

Ron Zonen, in his own defense, said he gave some material to Cassavetes to get publicity for Jesse James Hollywood. Hollywood was found in Brazil and extradited back to the US. Jesse James Hollywood will stand trial in February 2009.
